The Headcrab Speaks! — 2:57:35

In the fine tradition of Metroid Prime done quick, Half-Life 2 Done Quick is out! David Gibbons tears through this greuling FPS in just under three hours. FilePlanet hosts the video in several resolutions.

If you’re a HL2 fan, you may wish to invest in the 1.4GB download (run it overnight). You will learn things! Much of the speed comes from all-out kamikaze tactics, and some of it comes from taking shortcuts. A lot of it, though, comes from creative methods for dispatching enemies and clearing puzzles. (For instance, have you tried using the Zero Point Field Manipulator to grab a manhack and smash it on a wall?)

Too cool.

Iowa Hawk…

…can keep churning them out, and I’ll just keep reading them.

WiFlyer

Also cool, although of little use to me at the moment.

A Really Handy iPod Accessory

It’s SmartDeck! I really want one of these now. This is MUCH cooler than the old Sony cassette adapter I have been using.

The Headcrab Speaks! — New Year’s Resolution

I think my best quality/performance combination comes at a resolution of 1600×1200 with no anti-aliasing. This grabs me from 50-100 FPS, depending on the sequence, which is more than my eyeballs can sense, and the aliasing isn’t noticeable unless I’m looking at a straight line against the sky, such as a telephone pole in city 17. Even then, it’s quite bearable.

If you need a new AGP card for Half-Life 2, I now officially recommend the ATI Radeon 9800 Pro 256MB — although make sure you don’t have the same installation difficulties that I did, for an optimal experience. ;)

WDhat, tell you how to avoid those problems? I can’t give away all of my secrets! :D
